Report From Philadelphia Soul
PHILADELPHIA (March 15, 2015) – The Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul adds another big weapon with the addition of 2014 Cutter’s Receiver of the Year Marco Thomas (6’0, 190, Western Illinois) to the 2015 Soul training camp roster.
Thomas, who is entering his sixth season in the Arena Football League, led the league in receptions (151), receiving yards (1,946) and tied with former teammate Darius Reynolds in touchdowns (39). The former Iowa Barnstormer was awarded First Team All-Arena and Receiver of the Year for his tremendous 2014 season.
“We are very fortunate to have a receiver of Marco’s caliber on our roster,” says Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel. “With (Ryan) McDaniel, (Dominique) Curry, and (Shaun) Kauleinamoku – Thomas is another veteran that can bring experience to help some of our younger receivers and will be a dangerous weapon for our offense.”
Prior to arriving in Philadelphia, Thomas spent three seasons (2012-14) with the Iowa Barnstormers, recording 431 total receptions, 5,033 yards and 90 touchdowns. He also split time with the San Jose SaberCats and Chicago Rush in 2011, recording 61 receptions for 531 yards and six touchdowns.
Thomas began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent for the New York Giants. He also spent time with the New York Jets from 2007-08 and both the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers in 2008. Thomas earned First Team All-Gateway honors as Western’s leading receiver his senior year at Western Illinois. He tallied 109 passes for 1,691 yards and 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career.
