The 76ers came as close as they’ve ever come to snapping their worst losing streak in franchise history Friday night, but a potential game-tying shot by Michael Carter-Williams just before time expired fell short and as a meaningless bucket made the final score 93-92 in favor of the visiting New York Knicks (29-40), the Sixers might as well have lost by 100 as the streak reached 23 games.
With the loss, the Sixers (15-54) have now matched the Vancouver Grizzlies (1995-96), Denver Nuggets (1997-98) and Charlotte Bobcats (2011-12) for the second-longest single-season losing streak in NBA history.
The Cleveland Cavaliers set the record of 26 consecutive losses in 2010-11. The Sixers last won on Jan. 29 on former guard Evan Turner’s buzzer-beater at Boston.
