Young Named Player of Week, Sixers Fall to T-Wolves

Thaddeus Young, who was recently named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week, kept up his impressive play with 20 points Monday night, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Sixers from getting thumped by Kevin Love and the Timberwolves, 126-95. The 126 points are the most the Wolves have scored in a game this season and they also hit a season-high 16 3-pointers. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the 76ers. By becoming the second Sixer to be named POW this season (Michael Carter-Williams), Young completes the first Sixers duo to earn the honor since the 2001-02 season (Allen Iverson and Eric Snow).

Young helped guide the Sixers to a 3-0 week, as part of a season-high four-game winning streak which began at the L.A. Lakers on December 29, 2013. In three road victories over Denver, Sacramento and Portland last week, Young averaged 25 points and nearly eight rebounds, three assists and four steals while shooting 57% from the floor. Young capped off the week by scoring a season-high tying 30 points at the Blazers on January 4, 2014. It marked the third time over the past six games that Young has scored 30-plus points after doing so twice the first 461 games of his career.
