PHILADELPHIA — A .345 batting average in April and a .291 clip in May put Phillies second basemanChase Utley on the fast track to his sixth All-Star Game selection. But before Utley is honored at Minnesota’s Target Field on Tuesday, the Phillies will give him a proper sendoff on Sunday.
Utley will be presented with his official National League All-Star jersey on the field prior to Sunday’s Phillies-Nationals game. The jersey is courtesy of Majestic Athletic, the Official Uniform of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Utley accrued 2,866,529 votes to earn a spot in the National League’s starting lineup. He trails only Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt (nine) for the most fan selections in Phillies history. The only other NL second basemen to draw more All-Star starts are Ryne Sandberg (nine) and fellow Hall of Famer Joe Morgan (seven).
