Report From Philadelphia Union
CHESTER, Pa. – Philadelphia Union, in conjunction with Major League Soccer, have announced the club’s 2017 schedule. The Union will open the 2017 season on the road at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday, March 5. Philadelphia’s home opener will take place on Saturday, March 11, in a playoff rematch with Toronto at Talen Energy Stadium.
Philadelphia is scheduled to appear on ESPN and FS1 in five nationally televised matches. Of the club’s five nationally televised matches, four will showcase Talen Energy Stadium, the first of which will take place on Friday, April 14, when the club hosts New York City FC. Philadelphia will host the 2016 MLS Cup Champions Seattle Sounders on Sunday Oct. 1 on ESPN.
The Union will make their first trip to Atlanta on Wednesday Sept. 27, when they face Atlanta United FC in their inaugural season in MLS. Atlanta will make their first trip to Philadelphia on Aug. 26. Philadelphia will visit the other expansion club in MLS for 2017, Minnesota United FC, on Sept. 9th, in their only meeting of the season.
Philadelphia will square off with conference rivals New York Red Bulls, New York City FC and D.C. United this season. The Union will face D.C. United and New York Red Bulls three times during the campaign, while taking on New York City FC twice.
