Temple WR Invited to Training Camp After Open Tryout With Soul

Report From Soul.com

The Philadelphia Soul concluded another successful open tryout that drew over 150 prospective players to the Philadelphia Eagles’ NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia on Saturday.  Following the tryout, the team invited wide receiver Darryl Shine (5’10, 175, Temple) to the team’s 2014 training camp.

“This was a tremendous turnout,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel.  “Not only did we draw a very large number of players but we found some talent.  (Darryl) Shine was one of the many guys that we were impressed with and we want to get a better look at him during camp.”

The day was also highlighted by those who attended to view the tryout: current Soul Co-Majority Owner, ESPN analyst and former Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Ron Jaworski, Philadelphia free agent wide receiver, Jeremy Maclin, as well as current Soul coaching and football operations staff and current local players on the Soul’s roster.

The Soul found Rookie of the Year finalist, Ryan McDaniel, at last year’s open tryout.  McDaniel earned the starting job a few weeks into the season and finished with 65 receptions for 819 yards and 21 touchdowns.  He also had an impressive 13 catches for 137 yards and two-touchdown performance in this year’s ArenaBowl.

The players will report to training camp on Thursday, February 20 which will conclude on March 8, where final cuts will be made.  The Soul kicks off their 2014 season in Phoenix on Saturday, March 15 at 9 p.m. in an ArenaBowl rematch against the defending champion, Arizona Rattlers.  The home opener is set for Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. against the Jacksonville Sharks at the Wells Fargo Center.
