PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Philadelphia Soul (5-1) won their third game at home, 47-17 against the Tampa Bay Storm (0-5) in front of 8,172 fans at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA on Monday night.
“Our defense played lights out tonight” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “Having a strong secondary with good ball skills creates instant offense on a night where our offense wasn’t totally in sync.”
Soul WR Shaun Kauleinamoku led the team with nine receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Soul WR Ryan McDaniel added nine receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. Tampa Bay WR and J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game, Phillip Barnett had two receptions for 22 yards and two touchdowns.
Philadelphia QB and Under Armour Offensive Player of the Game, Dan Raudabaugh completed 24-of-37 passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns. Tampa Bay QB Jonathan Bane completed 11-of-28 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
The Soul won the coin toss to start the game and kicked off to Tampa Bay. On the first play of the game, Craig Peterson kicked a field goal to give the Storm a 3-0 lead with 11:41 left on the clock. On the Soul’s first possession of the game, James Harrell intercepted Raudabaugh in the end zone. Jonathan Bane threw to Barnett for an 8-yard touchdown with 7:31 left in the game adding to their lead, 10-0. With less than four minutes left in the first, Jeramie Richardson rushed for a 2-yard touchdown. The Soul trailed the Storm 6-10 at the end of the first.
In the beginning of the second quarter, the Soul defense put a big stop to Tampa Bay’s offense on 4th and goal on the Soul yard line. On the next drive, Raudabaugh found McDaniel in the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown. With 8:01 left in the second, the Soul took the lead for the first time in the game, 12-10. Later in the quarter, Soul DB Dwayne Hollis picked off Jonathan Bane for a touchdown. The Soul tacked seven points onto their lead, 19-10, with 1:44 left on the clock. On the next play of the game, the Soul recovered their onside kick. On that same drive, Raudabaugh completed his pass to Jake Metz for a 4-yard touchdown. At the end of the first half, the Soul led the Storm 26-10.
In the beginning of the third quarter, the Soul turned the ball over on downs. Tampa Bay was unable to capitalize on this opportunity. On the Soul’s second drive of the quarter, Raudabaugh fumbled, and Tampa Bay recovered the ball. Bane found Barnett for a touchdown, making the score 26-17 with 7:28 left in the third. Later in the quarter, Raudabaugh tossed the ball to Sean Kauleinamoku for a 3-yard touchdown. At the end of the third quarter, the Soul led the Tampa Bay Storm 33-17.
To start the fourth quarter, Soul DB James Romain intercepted Bane for a touchdown. Philadelphia added to their lead, 40-17 with 12:09 left in the quarter. With their next possession of the game, the Storm turned the ball over on downs. Raudabaugh connected to Kauleinamoku for his second touchdown of the night with 7:11 left in the game. The Soul defeated the Tampa Bay Storm 47-17.
Next week, the Soul host the Arizona Rattlers on Saturday, May 14 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports, 97.5 The Fanatic and ESPN3. Kick-off set for 6:30 p.m.
