It seemed that every time the Phillies gained an edge Thursday night in Colorado the Rockies had an answer. In the end, it was the Phillies who ran out of steam during a 7-3 loss to end the series. Darin Ruf’s RBI single in the third gave the Phillies and starter Jerome Williams a 1-0 lead that Williams coughed up in the Rockies’ half of the frame. Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, Ruf knocked in Chase Utley on a sacrifice fly before Ryan Howard connected on his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot, to tie the game at 3-3. But Williams couldn’t take the bait and surrendered two more runs in the bottom of the fifth before being lifted. Utley and Ruf both had two hits on the day. With the loss, Williams fell to 3-4.
