The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have placed forward Zac Rinaldo on Injured Reserve and recalled forward Tye McGinn from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, this morning, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
McGinn, 23, has six goals and 12 points in 28 games with the Phantoms this season, and is coming off a two-point night (1g-1a) to lead the Phantoms to a 4-0 win over the Albany Devils on Jan. 4, giving Adirondack its fourth straight victory.
He has also appeared in six games for the Flyers this season, recording three goals and a plus-minus rating of plus-1 with an average of 12:39 of ice-time per-game. McGinn was drafted by the Flyers in the fourth round (119th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and has a career total of six goals and eight points in 24 games for the Flyers over the last two seasons.
It was announced on Thursday that Rinaldo sustained a left, high-ankle sprain vs. Montreal on Wednesday night and will be out of the line-up approximately six weeks.
The Flyers return to action when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (1 p.m. on CSN & 97.5 The Fanatic) before they make their first trip to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers on Sunday night (7 p.m. on NBC-SN & 97.5 The Fanatic).
