PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies added depth to the organization on Tuesday when they announced they signed Jason Marquis to a Minor League contract.
Marquis will report to extended spring camp in Clearwater, Fla., on Wednesday.
The veteran right-hander went 9-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 20 starts last season with the Padres before undergoing Tommy John surgery in July. He is 121-114 with a 4.56 ERA in 368 appearances (309 starts) over a 14-year big league career.
The Phillies are short on starting pitching depth with Cliff Lee, Jonathan Pettibone and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez all on the disabled list.
