The Phillies put on one of their most dominant offensive showings in a while on Saturday afternoon, and did it for their ace Cole Hamels no less, during an 8-1 win in our Nation’s Capital. Ryan Howard hit another home run, his 10th of the season, and went 3-for-4 on the day while Ben Revere went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI to pace the Phils. Maikel Franco also collected two hits, including his second Big League homer. The Phillies scored four runs in the third inning to stake a lead that would never be threatened. From there, Hamels continued to cruise in a game where he’d allow more than three batters to take part in an inning only four times over eight frames of five-hit, one-walk, one-run ball. With the win, he improved to 5-3. Stephen Strasburg was chased by the Phils after just 3.2 innings of work. He fell to 3-5. For more on this game, click here.
