It was the New York Mets who let an early lead go by the wayside Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, but the Phillies could not completely capitalize in what would become a 6-5 loss. Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis both hit two-run, two-out homers in the third inning to give the Phils a 4-3 lead, but the Mets would regain the advantage for good in the sixth with three more runs. Mets left fielder Michael Cuddyer knocked in the go-ahead runs on a pinch-hit single after Jeanmar Gomez walked in the tying run. Jerome Williams took the loss, allowing five runs in 5.1 innings.
Both teams’ benches emptied in the seventh inning when Darin Ruf was quick-pitched during a pinch-hit appearance. For more on this game, click here.
