The Phillies have avoided arbitration with two players, agreeing to terms with right-hander Kyle Kendrick and outfielder John Mayberry.
Kendrick has agreed to a one-year, $7.675 million contract, plus award bonuses for the 2014 season, while Mayberry accepted a one-year deal worth $1.587 million.
Kendrick, 29, won double-digit games last year for the fifth time in his six full big league seasons. He earned a $4.5 million base salary in 2013, when he went 10-13 with a 4.70 ERA, all while pitching a career-high 182 innings over 30 starts.
A Phillies’ seventh-round pick in 2003, Kendrick has spent his entire career in the Philadelphia organization. The righty is 64-55 with a 4.38 ERA in 194 games (153 starts).
As for Mayberry, the 30-year-old started 89 games for the Phils last season, including 84 in the outfield. However, Philadelphia added veteran Marlon Byrd this offseason with the hopes of having Byrd patrol the outfield alongside Ben Revere and Domonic Brown. Mayberry last season hit .227 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs.
After reaching agreements with Kendrick and Mayberry, the Phillies have just two other players — Revere and reliever Antonio Bastardo — still awaiting arbitration. The sides will exchange proposed salary figures on Friday.
