VILLANOVA, PA – For the second time since 2010, the Villanova Wildcats have earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats learned on Sunday evening that they are the second seed in the East Regional and will head to Buffalo for a matchup with No. 15 seed Milwaukee (21-13 overall).
The winner of Thursday’s game will face the victor of the matchup between No. 7 seed Connecticut and No. 10 seed Saint Joseph’s on Saturday.
“It’s always exciting to be included in the NCAA Tournament,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “We have had a tough couple of days after the Seton Hall loss but now we have an good team to prepare for in Milwaukee. It’s a new season.”
Villanova established a new school record for victories with a 28-4 record and claimed the BIG EAST regular season title by virtue of a 16-2 league mark. The Wildcats were eliminated by Seton Hall 64-63 in a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon.
This is the Wildcats ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 10 seasons.
The Panthers, meanwhile, will be making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and second under head coach Rob Jeter. Milwaukee claimed a berth with a stirring four-game run through the Horizon League Tournament that included wins at top-seeded Green Bay and at third-seeded Wright State.
Milwaukee was picked to finish last but rallied late to claim the tourney title.
Game times and television plans will be announced by Monday.
