Mets Use Long Ball to Top Phillies in Opener

The New York Mets clobbered three home runs on Memorial Day to take the series opener against the visiting Phillies, 6-3. Shortstop Wimer Flores’ three-run dinger in the sixth broke open a 3-3 tie and provided a boost the Mets would use to shut the Phils down the rest of the way. Elvis Araujo took the loss in relief of Severino Gonzalez, who lasted just 4.1 innings and allowed three earned runs. Freddy Galvis and Chase Utley (two RBI) both had two hits for the Phillies.
