Mets Complete Sweep of Phillies With Extra-Inning Win

The visiting Mets made sure that a four-run 13th inning would not go to waste Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park. After the Phillies had jumped on top 5-0 by scoring the game’s first five runs in the third, New York clawed its way back with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth before both teams’ bullpens subdued things until extra innings. Domonic Brown nearly hit a game-winning home run for the Phils in the 10th, but the ball skewed foul into the right field bleachers. What looked like a game that could go on for hours at that point unraveled rather quickly in the 13th when Phillies reliever Hector Neris, in his second inning of work, allowed hits to three of the first four batters, then followed that up with a throwing error to first on a David Wright ground ball. The Mets would plate four in the inning to stake an eventual 9-5 win. For more on this game, click here.
