Report From Villanova University
VILLANOVA, Pa. — A pair of skilled forwards have signed national letters of intent to attend Villanova, it was announced today. Dylan Painter, 6-10, of Hershey (Pa.) High School and Omari Spellman, 6-8, of St. Thomas More School in Connecticut will enroll at Villanova in the fall of 2016.
Painter averaged 17.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game as a junior in 2014-15 at Hershey High School. He played AAU Basketball for Team Final.
“Dylan is a great addition to our team in that he brings size, toughness, skill, and a high basketball IQ to our team,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “Dylan grew up playing football and he brings a tough mentality with him. He’s also an outstanding student who’s been coached by Paul Blackburn at Hershey High School. We’re proud to welcome him to the Villanova Family.”
Spellman, 6-8, is a native of North Royalton, Ohio who spent the 2014-15 season at the MacDuffie School in Massachusetts. He is listed at No. 16 in the 2016 ESPN 100 rankings of the top members of the senior class and played his AAU Basketball for the PSA Cardinals.
“Omari is a highly touted player but is a really grounded young man who is playing for coach Jere Quinn at St. Thomas More,” stated Wright. “He will be very well prepared for college basketball. I think he’s got the skills to play on the perimeter and inside. Given his size, that is going to be unique and give us a lot of depth and versatility next season.”
