Cole Hamels resembled the ace that Philadelphia has come to rely on the last several years Friday night versus the New York Mets and the Phillies got the better of Matt Harvey to open the series and the homestand with a 3-1 win. Aside from a rough fourth inning, during which he uncorked two wild pitches and allowed two walks (one intentional) and two hits as the Mets scored their lone run, Hamels allowed more than three batters to come to the plate in just two other frames while notching eight strikeouts and surrendering four hits and two walks over seven innings. Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis supplied most of the offense with Howard launching his sixth home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the fourth and give the Phils a 2-1 lead. Galvis went 3-3 with a run scored and is now hitting .351 on the season. Ben Revere’s RBI single in the fifth gave the Phillies an insurance run and Jonathan Papelbon worked a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save. For more on this game, click here.
