The National Hockey League announced today that Flyers captain Claude Giroux has been named the Third Star for the month of March.
Giroux led all players in the league with 15 assists and 21 points in 14 games, to average 1.5 points per-game. He recorded at least a point in 11 of the 14 games, which included seven multi-point games during the month.
Giroux leads the Flyers and currently sits in third place in the NHL’s scoring race with 78 points, and ranks fourth in the league with 53 assists through 74 regular season games. He is tied for the team lead in goals (25) and leads the Flyers in game-winning goals.
The Flyers own a 19-2-1 record this season when Giroux scores a goal and are 32-13-3 when he posts at least one point, including at least a point in each of the Flyers’ last 16 wins.
Jarome Iginla of the Boston Bruins was named First Star with 13 goals and 17 points, while Red Wings’ forward Gustav Nyquist was named Second Star with 12 goals and 18 points during March.
