The Philadelphia Flyers have once again extended their opening-round series of the Stanley Cup playoffs with the Washington Capitals after a 2-0 win in D.C. on Friday night. Making his second consecutive start in net, goalie Michal Neuvirth stopped all 44 shots he faced to not just earn the win but to seriously frustrate the President’s Trophy winners. He also set Flyers playoff records for most saves in a shutout and most saves in a regulation win.
Ryan White scored what would stand to be the game-winning goal at 7:52 of the first period when his shot on goal deflected off the skate of the Caps’ defenseman Taylor Chorney and past goalie Braden Holtby (nine saves on 10 shots). Chris VandeVelde added an empty net goal at 19:29 of the third period to seal the win and force Game 6, which will be played in Philly on Sunday afternoon. For more on this game, click here.
