POSTGAME RECAP
PHILADELPHIA — Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center.
Parenteau came down the middle and beat Flyers goalie Ray Emery to cap the Canadiens’ rally from a 3-0 deficit.
Canadiens goalie Carey Price stopped the Flyers’ Vincent Lecavalier, Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier and Matt Read in the shootout.
Price made 29 saves in regulation and overtime. Andrei Markov had a goal and two assists, Tomas Plekanec had a goal and an assist, and Alex Galchenyuk had a goal for the Canadiens.
The Canadiens are 3-0-0, their best start since 2005-06.
Wayne Simmonds had his second-straight two-goal game for the Flyers, and Michael Raffl also had a goal. Ray Emery, in his first start of the season, made 35 saves in regulation and overtime; he also stopped David Desharnais, Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher in the shootout.
The Flyers led 3-0 after two periods, but the Canadiens roared back in the third, outshooting Philadelphia 19-4 and scoring three times, including Galchenyuk’s tying goal with 5:20 left. Plekanec fired a shot from the left side and Galchenyuk, camped in front of Emery, tipped the puck into the Philadelphia goal for his first of the season.
The Flyers had the best chance of overtime, getting a power play when Lars Eller was called for tripping at 2:23, but they managed one shot on goal.
The Canadiens started their third-period comeback on goals by Markov and Plekanec. The goals were separated by 2:07.
Markov scored his first of the season at 7:05 to get the Canadiens on the board. P.K. Subban’s shot from the left side kicked behind the Philadelphia net to Brendan Gallagher, who had a whack at it as skaters converged on the net. Flyers defenseman Nick Schultz tried to clear the puck but it went to Markov, and Emery never saw his shot .
Plekanec scored his fourth goal when Emery couldn’t glove Parenteau’s shot from the slot. The puck slipped out of Emery’s glove and dropped next to him, and Plekanec scored easily at 9:12.
