Flyers End Season With 3-1 Loss to Visiting Senators

* The Flyers finish the 2014-15 season with a record of 33-31-18 for 84 points.

* The Flyers finish 24th in the overall NHL standings with 84 points and will draft in one of three positions depending on the outcome of the NHL Draft Lottery: No. 1, No. 7 or No. 8 overall.

* Jake Voracek, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier each played in all 82 games this season. It’s the third consecutive season of perfect attendance for Voracek and the second consecutive for Schenn and Couturier… Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Claude Giroux and Mark Streit each played 81 games, while Matt Read and Nick Schultz played 80.

* Steve Mason concluded the season with a .928 save percentage, which is the second-best single-season save percentage in franchise history for a goalie that played the majority of the team’s games in that season… The only one higher was Bernie Parent’s .933 save percentage in 1973-74. His 2.25 GAA is the lowest for a regular Flyers goaltender since 2003-04.

* The Flyers finished the season with a 28.0 home power play percentage, which is a franchise high for the years in which the home percentage is available (1982-83 onward).

GAME RECAP

PHILADELPHIA — The Ottawa Senators’ remarkable run has carried them into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the go-ahead goal Saturday in the second period and goaltender Andrew Hammond made 34 saves to help the Senators to a 3-1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The win clinched a playoff berth for the Senators and gave them a 21-3-3 record in their final 27 games.

Ottawa started Saturday holding the first wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference but could finish as high as third in the Atlantic Division if the Detroit Red Wings lose in regulation against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C.

Mark Stone scored two goals for the Senators, who clinched a playoff spot for the first time in three seasons.

Matt Read scored for the Flyers. Goaltender Steve Mason made 19 saves.

Pageau gave the Senators a 2-1 lead with 3:42 remaining in the second period. He drew a penalty on the Flyers’ Brayden Schenn, and while the Senators didn’t score they had possession of the puck when the advantage ended. Marc Methot carried the puck to the net on the left side of the Flyers zone. Mason stopped Methot’s shot but couldn’t control the rebound, and Pageau reached in and poked it into the net of this 10th goal of the season.

Stone’s second goal of the game and seventh in the past six, at 11:49 of the third period, closed the scoring. Flyers forward Jakub Voracek fumbled the puck above the circles while trying to exit his zone, and Stone picked it up and scored his 26th of the season.

The two goals extended Stone’s point streak to nine games, and with 64 points he tied the Calgary Flames’ Johnny Gaudreau for the rookie scoring lead.

Hammond, who emerged as a driving force in the Senators’ run, made the lead stand up. He made 29 saves through two periods as the Flyers outshot the Senators 30-13. His best saves came in the second, when he smothered a Michael Rafflshot from the slot on a Flyers power play, and then robbed Voracek in front in the middle of the period. Then with 1:58 left he stopped a Raffl shot from the right side but the puck leaked through him and Hammond had to lay back to snare it before it crossed the goal line.

Read tied the game at 1:23 of the second period with his eighth goal of the season. Brayden Schenn circled behind the Ottawa net early in the second period and fired a shot from the right side that Hammond stopped. The rebound went to Read on the left side. He stopped the puck with his skate and tapped it in.

Sean Couturier drew an assist on the play to extend his scoring streak to six games; he has two goals and five assists in that span.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead on Stone’s 25th goal of the season. With the Senators on a power play, Mason reached outside the post to glove a Clarke MacArthur shot from the right-wing boards. He tried to keep the play going but Kyle Turris jumped in and tipped the puck off his stick. It rolled to MacArthur, who backhanded a pass back to Stone in the slot, and the rookie forward scored into an empty net at 6:06 of the period.
