The Philadelphia Eagles finally showed the potential that many thought was waiting to be unleashed during a 39-17 win over visiting New Orleans on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. The running game looked mutually dominant as DeMarco Murray and Ryan Matthews combined for 156 yards on the ground and a score each. Sam Bradford topped 300 yards passing again while completing 32 of 45 passes for 333 yards, two scores and two picks (both coming in the endzone in the first half).
Josh Huff (four catches, 78 yards, touchdown) and Zach Ertz (five catches, 60 yards) also made statements of their own in leading the offense in receiving yardage, as did the defense – which created four turnovers and, relatively speak, held quarterback Drew Brees in check (26-of-43, 378 yards, two TDs and a pick while yielding fewer than 100 yards rushing. A late score by wide receiver Brandon Cooks made a score that wasn’t close look that much closer.
The Eagles held a slim 10-7 halftime lead before busting out with 16 third-quarter points.
Defensive end Fletcher Cox (six tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, fumble recovery) had a career da on the defensive side of the ball.
