Eagles Ink C to Futures Contract

The Eagles added another player to the roster on Thursday, as the team announced the signing of free-agent center David Molk to a futures contract.

The 25-year-old Molk was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round of the 2012 draft. He played 12 games for the Chargers in 2012 before being placed on season-ending Injured Reserve with a thumb injury. Molk played sparingly — largely on special teams and in “jumbo” packages — during his time in San Diego and was released by the team during its round of cuts this past August.

Molk had an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Michigan. In 2010, he was named a first-team, All-Big Ten selection. The following season, he led an offensive line that paved the way for quarterback Denard Robinson and running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, who became Michigan’s second ever pair of 1,000-yard rushers, and the first Michigan tandem since 1975. For his efforts, Molk took home the 2011 Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the best center in college football.

Standing at 6 feet 1 and 300 pounds, Molk’s addition gives the Eagles more depth at the center position, behindJason Kelce and Julian Vandervelde. The Eagles have now signed 11 players to futures contracts since the 2013 season came to a close.
