For the first time this preseason, the Philadelphia Eagles showed why expectations are high for them in the NFC East in 2014 with a 31-21 win over visiting Pittsburgh. Despite brief injury scares from LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin, the offense looked impressive for the most part in building a 17-0 halftime lead before the majority of substitutions took place. Likewise, the defense made its own statements in holding the Steelers’ first-team offense in check and setting the overall game tone. Alex Henery missed another kick and Riley Cooper looked a little rusty as he adjusted to his first game action of the season, but otherwise the night was rather encouraging.
Maclin and Shady are both expected to be fine: Get the reports here. The Birds wrap up the 2014 preseason next Thursday when the Michael Vick and the Jets visit.
