The ongoing saga that has been the speculation regarding the eventual trade of Chase Utley came to an awkward end Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. With only about three hours to go before the second of two games against the Toronto Blue Jays got underway, Utley was pulled from the starting lineup as reports broke that he had been dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers (along with some money) for a pair of prospects. But as the evening went on – the Phillies would go on to win 7-4, Utley could be seen in the dugout as reports began to claim that a deal had in fact not yet been finalized. Within minutes of the game’s conclusion, however, Utley, having given a quick tip of his cap as he exited the field after post-game “celebrating,” participated in a press conference confirming the trade – with reports now claiming that the Phillies increased the amount of cash being sent to seal the deal.
