In his second start in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform, Chad Billingsley showed signs of returning to the one reliable pitcher he was while with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then he got into trouble in the sixth inning and the bullpen and defense couldn’t bail him out. With the Phillies trailing 3-2 to begin the inning, Billingsley allowed two consecutive doubles to Wilmer Flores and Kirk Nieuwenhuis before being lifted for Justin De Fratus. Nieuwenhuis then stole third and scored when catcher Cameron Rupp threw the ball into the outfield. The Phillies would get two more in the seventh to get within 5-4, but the Mets opened things up again in the eighth off reliever Jeanmar Gomez. The Phillies got RBIs from four different players (including Billingsley, who homered in the third to give the Philas a 1-0 lead), but nobody in the lineup collected more than one. Billingsley took the loss and ended with a line of five innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while walking one and striking out three. For more on this game, click here.
