Report From Philadelphia Union
CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia Union selected Joshua Yaro, Keegan Rosenberry, Fabian Herbers and Taylor Washington during the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday. During a draft day trade, the Union acquired the No. 2 overall pick from Colorado Rapids in exchange for a player to be named later and general allocation money. That player was revealed to be midfielder Zach Pfeffer.
With the No. 2 overall pick, the Union selected Georgetown defender Yaro, 21, who played three seasons with the Hoyas. While at Georgetown, Yaro started 57 games and was named an NSCAA First Team All-American and the Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. In 2014, he was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and was also selected as the college Player of the Year by TopDrawerSoccer.com during his sophomore season.
At the No. 3 pick, the Union selected fellow Georgetown product Keegan Rosenberry. The 22-year-old Ronks, Pa. native spent time in the Union academy program before attending Georgetown where he played four seasons. At Georgetown, Rosenberry started 90 games, scored four goals and added 13 assists. In 2015, he was a first team NSCAA Great Lake Region selection and a second team All-Big East selection.
The Union then selected Herbers, a midfielder from Creighton, with the No. 6 overall pick. The Union originally acquired the pick in a trade with Houston Dynamo. Herbers, 22, was born in Ahaus, Germany and played three seasons at Creighton. As a Blue Jay, he scored 28 goals while starting 57 games and was twice named an NSCAA First Team All-American. During his junior year in 2015, he scored 15 goals, registered 17 assists and was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year. He was also a MAC Hermann trophy finalist.
The Union selected defender Washington with the No. 23 pick, the third overall selection in the second round. Washington, 22, attended George Mason University and in 2015 was named to NSCAA Third Team All-Midwest region. During his three seasons at George Mason, Washington started in 52 games and scored one goal and gave two assists. In 2013, Washington was named to Frist Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference.
The Philadelphia Union also holds the No. 44 and the No. 64 overall picks in the third and fourth rounds. These picks will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 19 via conference call at 2 p.m.

Day 2 Report
The Philadelphia Union selected Mitchell Lurie and Cole Missimo in the final rounds of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday. The Union selected Lurie with the third pick in the third round (No. 44 overall) and Missimo with the third pick in the fourth round (No. 64 overall).
At No. 44, the Union selected Lurie, a 22-year-old defender from Rutgers University. Lurie played and started 21 games during one season with Rutgers and in 2015, was named NSCAA Second Team All-Midwest Region, Second Team All-Big Ten Conference, Academic All-Big Ten Conference and Central New York Classic All-Tournament Team. Before joining Rutgers, Lurie spent his first two seasons with the University of Portland and his junior year with the University of Louisville.
With the No. 64 pick, the Union selected Missimo, a 22-year-old midfielder from Northwestern University. During the four seasons at Northwestern, Missimo played 76 games and started 56, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists. In 2015, Missimo scored one goal and gave two assists and was named NSCAA Second Team All-Big Ten Conference for the second year in a row.

In completing a draft day trade, the Philadelphia Union sent Pfeffer to Colorado Rapids, along with general allocation money, in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. Per club and league policy, additional details were not disclosed.
Pfeffer, 21, joined the Union on Dec. 22, 2010, signing as a 15-year-old Homegrown player. In five years with the club, he played in 30 games and made 14 starts. He scored three goals, including two in 2015.
“Zach has grown from a 15-year-old teenager to a 21-year-old man during his time with the Union,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said. “His development as a player and teammate both on and off the pitch has been a credit to our organization and we thank him for his devotion and efforts during the past five years.”
The Union also hold the No. 44 and the No. 64 overall picks in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. These picks will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 19 via conference call at 2 p.m.
