SOUL ROCK THE KISS, 56-33
ANAHEIM, CA—The Philadelphia Soul (4-1) won their second game on the road, 56-33 against the LA KISS (2-3) in front of 6,193 fans at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA on Monday night.
“Being able to capitalize on turnovers helps to set the tone of the game and I think we definitely accomplished that,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “We made some mistakes in the first half but came out much stronger in the second and were able to finish the game.”
Soul WR Darius Reynolds led the team with 10 receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns. WR Shaun Kauleinamoku added six receptions for 97 yards and three touchdowns. KISS WR and J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game, Donovan Morgan led his team with seven receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns.
Philadelphia QB and Under Armour Offensive Player of the Game, Dan Raudabaugh completed 18-of-26 passes for 250 yards and six touchdowns. KISS QB Nathan Stanley completed 18-of-41 passes for 191 yards and four touchdowns.
The Soul lost the coin toss and the KISS kicked off to start the game. Raudabaugh connected with Kauleinamoku for a 28-yard touchdown, giving the Soul a quick lead 7-0, with 10:34 to play in the first quarter. Stanley answered with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Morgan and with 6:26 remaining in the quarter, the Soul were tied 7-7. Raudabaugh turned around and found SK for a 32-yard touchdown. Kick was good and with 4:28 left, the Soul again took the lead, 14-7. The KISS responded with a 10-yard touchdown run by Colin Madison for a KISS touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, the Soul were tied 14-14.
Darius Reynolds opened up the second quarter with a 33-yard touchdown pass. The kick was good and the Soul led 21-14. Tracy Belton picked off a pass by Stanley for another Soul touchdown. With 11:04 left in the first half, the Soul were leading 28-14. The KISS were unable to complete a first down and the Soul took over with 5:04 left in the half. Raudabaugh capitalized on this with another pass to SK for a 6-yard touchdown, his third of the night. With 2:02 left in the first half, the Soul widened the lead, 35-14. The KISS added six on the board with a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Stanley. Kick was good and with :17 seconds left in the first half, the Soul led 35-21.
With a slow start to the third quarter, the KISS were unable to complete a first down and the Soul got the ball with 7:04 left in the third quarter. Raudabaugh quickly found Reynolds for a 12-yard touchdown. At the end of the third quarter, the Soul led the KISS, 42-21.
The KISS opened up with a quick 7-yard touchdown pass by Stanley to Morgan. The kick was blocked and with 14:58 remaining in the game, the Soul kept their lead, 42-27. Raudabaugh connected with Reynolds for his third touchdown of the night. The kick was good and with 11:02 to play, the Soul led 49-27. Stanley immediately responded with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Morgan. Kick was no good and with 8:34 remaining, the Soul led 49-33. Jeramie Richardson rushed for one yard and his first touchdown of the night. The kick was good and with 2:51 left, the Soul kept the lead 56-33. At the end of the night, the Soul defeated the LA KISS 56-33.
Next week, the Soul host the Tampa Bay Storm on Monday, May 9 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on Univision Deportes, 97.5 The Fanatic and ESPN3. Kick-off set for 8 p.m.
