Union Earn First-Ever Win Over Portland

Chester, Pa. (July 11, 2015) – The Philadelphia Union secured their first victory in club history against the Portland Timbers winning 3-0 on Saturday night in PPL Park. The Union had many chances throughout the game, seeing 17 shots with seven on those on target, but as the first half came to an close, the game remained scoreless. Andrew Wenger scored the first goal in the 69th minute, dribbling from the midfield to the area and finishing the run with a powerful shot. Vincent Nogueira scored a brace, making the scoreline 2-0 in the 71st minute and 3-0 in the 82nd minute. Cristian Maidana assisted all three goals tonight and with the victory, the Union move to seventh place in the league. The Union return to action on Tuesday night, July 14, to play AFC Bournemouth in an international friendly at 7 p.m. in PPL Park.
