GAME RECAP
COLUMBUS — Artem Anisimov scored with 2:43 remaining in overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 4-3 comeback victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at Nationwide Arena on Friday.
Anisimov put in a rebound of a James Wisniewski shot from the right point for Columbus (24-26-3), which trailed 3-1 in the third period after Philadelphia goals by Wayne Simmonds and Sean Couturier.
The Flyers (23-22-10) are 6-0-3 in the past nine games.
After Simmonds’ 21st of the season put the Flyers up 3-1 at 5:04 of the third period, the Blue Jackets tied the game on goals by Jared Boll, his first in 64 games, and Cam Atkinson.
Boll was at the goalmouth for a tip of a Corey Tropp pass at 8:38. Atkinson scored his 12th off a rebound after Scott Hartnell‘s redirect from Brandon Dubinsky with 4:40 left.
Dubinsky tied the game 1-1 in the second period before Couturier put the Flyers ahead.
The Flyers had two good scoring chances through two periods and were dominated for long stretches, but had the lead thanks to goaltender Ray Emery.
In two trips down the ice for the Blue Jackets, Emery preserved the 1-1 tie with about eight minutes to go by stopping Atkinson and then Foligno. Atkinson was alone in front for a redirect off a Dubinsky centering pass. Foligno breezed by the defense for a partial break that put the shots at 20-9 in favor of the Blue Jackets.
Couturier scored his 12th with 2:13 left in the period on a strange play. Simmonds tried to squeeze the puck past goaltender Curtis McElhinney at the right post. The puck appeared to hit McElhinney’s shoulder then Wisniewski’s shoulder before Couturier swung at the puck and put it into the net.
The play was upheld after a review because Couturier’s stick was ruled at or below the level of the crossbar.
Dubinsky tied the game 1-1 with his fourth goal at 8:09 with a redirect of a pass from Kevin Connauton.
The Blue Jackets did not allow a shot the first 7:10, but Simmonds put the Flyers up 1-0 at 10:33 off transition. Matt Readfed Simmonds at the blue line between Anisimov and Kevin Connauton. Simmonds finished the play with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Hartnell was recognized in a pregame ceremony for playing his 1,000th NHL game Monday against the Los Angeles Kings. He played 517 games in seven seasons with Philadelphia before being traded to Columbus in June.
