Report From Philadelphia 76ers
LOS ANGELES –– On Friday, the Sixers used their 15th starting lineup of the season, inserting K.J. McDaniels in place of JaKarr Sampson at the shooting guard position. Unfortunately, the team will be forced to use its 16th against the Clippers, as point guard Michael Carter-Williams was scratched late due to soreness in his right shoulder.
“He aggravated his shoulder last night and has woken up extremely sore,” said head coach Brett Brown before Saturday’s game in Los Angeles. “We have 18 games in 31 days coming up, and we just felt like the responsible thing to do was sit him tonight.”
A Sixers spokesperson characterized the move as precautionary, and Carter-Williams said that he expects to suit up when the Sixers host the Cleveland Cavaliers at home on Monday.
“Nothing severe,” the second-year point guard said of the injury. “It’s nothing like [the pain during last season]… I just need to get treatment and get ready for Monday.”
Since missing the first seven games of this season while recovering from offseason surgery on that shoulder, Carter-Williams had played in 24 consecutive games.
Tony Wroten will start in his place at point guard against the Clippers. On Friday, he led all scorers with 28 points in 32 minutes off the bench.
“It’s unfortunate that one of our best players, Mike, is hurt,” said Wroten. “I’ll try to do my best to fill in and get a win.”
